Scrumptious Saturday: Lemon Curd Edition

It does not sound scrumptious.

Curd. 

It brings to my mind cottage cheese which, while tasty, is not exactly mouthwateringly delectable.

But pair it with the word lemon...be still my heart.

Laura Purdie Salas, over at Writing The World For Kids, posted another picture prompt and invited her readers to quickly write a poem of 15 words or less.  Her penguin poem used the word lemon curd to describe the sun.  That was the end of penguin inspiration for me.

Have you tried it?  It's easy to make.  Sweet. Citrusy.   Bright and cheerful.

It's a good mood in a pan.

I've made a batch or two in my lifetime.  I'm not loyal to one recipe--you can find recipes at some of my go-to tasty treat sites here, here, and here. 

Alas, I have only one lemon and two eggs in my fridge.  What's a lemon-loving lass to do?

Scour the earth for small batch lemon curd recipes, of course.

By scour, I mean Google 'small batch lemon curd' and click on the first link.

I have to go now.  Lemon curd doesn't  make itself.

Friday Fun ~ 15 Words or Less ~ Wise Owl

It's Friday and it's gray and cool and damp and leaf lovely if you look in the right spots.

You could also say it's grey and cool and damp and drab because some of the leaves (a lot of the leaves) are a little sad looking--kinda crispy AND bedraggled, which doesn't seem possible to happen at the same time but I'm telling you that yes they can if you live in Michigan and it's been too hot for an October and then really rainy for a teensy bit and still really not very cool.  So you could say that if  you REALLY wanted to.

But I say find the color.  It's there.

Also, head over to the Laura Salas's page and try out her Fifteen Words or Less picture prompt today--a bright and colorful picture to brighten up your grey day.  Also there's an owl.  Who doesn't like owls? Besides mice, I mean.  It's a great way to jump start a poem idea.  Or write a nice and short complete poem.

Here's my little brainstorm; I really do feel like maybe owls may feel a little stressed.  So much wisdom expected of them when really they just want a snack: a tasty morsel of mouse or a flavorful hare.

or Existential Owl Crisis;
or Owl Introspection
So much pressure
     to expound
I'm really
   not that wise--
I just want a mouse.

Friday Fun ~ 15 Words or Less

Laura Purdie Salas is a blogger who presents a poetry challenge each week called "15 Words or Less." She posts an image as inspiration for her readers' poems.

That have to be 15 words.

Or less.  :)

The poems posted by her readers are encouraged to be first drafts--to avoid the quest for perfection and to just write.

Perfect.  I'm in. 

Yesterday, she posted a photo of a maple tree putting on its fall colors.  So pretty.

Here's mine.  I'm a revise as you go kinda girl so it's not exactly a first draft, but it's a close as I get. I limited myself to ten minutes.

Teachers, she suggests using her photo prompts and only allowing students two or three minutes.

Give it a try, why don't you?

in tree ablaze we see
fiery fall’s finish
